There are many kinds of hair loss or alopecias but I am going to look only at the two most common ones, the ones that most people are bothered by - male pattern baldness and female diffuse hair loss. These are the forms of hair loss that the scalp exercise and a nutritious diet can help - maybe.
These forms of hair loss may be caused by genetics (the most common cause), the environment (toxins, empty calories, etc.), sickness, and a poor life style (no exercise, smoking, drinking). It's hard or perhaps impossible to change your genetic predisposition to hair loss. The other factors can be changed though if there is high motivation.
A differential diagnosis is often difficult to make. When does telogen effluvium become chronic or when does it border on pattern baldness? Or when does female diffuse thinning become a more serious type of hair loss. Even skilled dermatologists sometimes find it hard to make a definitive diagnosis. And often there is little financial incentive to get involved with the treatment of hair loss problems. A recommendation to use Rogaine or Propecia is the probable prescription. And these drugs do work for a percentage of people using them.
Click on the dropdown menu topics to explore these hair loss problems. There's a lot of material on the following pages presented without too much jargon. It's always good to understand a problem before trying to deal with it.

Hair Loss Research
There's a lot of research into cancer, diabetes, obesity, and high blood pressure; not so much serious research into hair loss problems though. Hair loss is never going to kill you as are the other maladies, therefore there is no crucial need for a miracle cure. Still, though, there is some sound research regarding hair loss and I'm going to list some of this research and name the researchers in the Articles section of this website.
But there is a lot of action among the hair transplant surgeons. All kinds of new techniques, some elegant, have emerged. This is were the action is. But before going down this road it might be wise to look at other "alternative" options - options with no potential side effects.
