Mickey H: I don't have a good answer for this. I do know that shampooing too often is not the answer. This can cause even more severe itching. If I had an itchy scalp I would keep my hair short and shampoo it twice a week with a clarifying shampoo like the Neutrogena anti-residue formula. "Pre-rinse" your hair before shampooing. (Stay under the shower a few minutes before applying the shampoo.) Apply the shampoo only once. Be sure to rinse thoroughly. Often a diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids (fish, walnuts, cod liver oil) helps people with dandruff and itchy scalps. I would not recommend scratching the scalp because this only increases the inflammation. Gentle massage and the scalp exercise may help alleviate the itch. If you use anything on your hair, I would use a drop or two of jojoba oil or even mineral oil. I use cosmetics-grade mineral oil. |
