Some of you are aware that iv had abit of success with saw palmetto. I have noticed a big increase in hair growth. Though that isn't the point here. Iv noticed a alot more facial and body hair growth. I believe this is due to the decreased DHT levels throughout my body. Though isn't body/facial hair triggered by DHT? Why am i experience an increase in hair growth all over(scalp, face and body)? Why does DHT "suffocate" scalp hair, but does the opposite to facial and body hair? |

Surely someone out there has something to add? An opinion? An observation? Anything!! |

Facial hair (let aside the scalp area)is regulated by dht. So yes there is a contradiction here, if (i repeat *if*)saw palmetto has reduced your dht levels. On the other hand, bodyhair is regulated by testosterone. Since less testosterone is converted to dihydrotestosterone, you might have slightly elevated testosterone levels. This could explain your bodyhair gains. Of course you might just be getting older. |

"bodyhair is regulated by testosterone. Since less testosterone is converted to dihydrotestosterone, you might have slightly elevated testosterone levels." But i dont think it works that way, DHT is responsible for body and hair growth, not testerone |

Are you sure that you have more body hair, or your existing body hair may just be growing longer. For example, my chest hair is pretty thick and long. It looks like I have more than I do. |

I remember reading an article on saw palmetto and something that grabbed my attention was saw palmetto's ability to balance hormone levels. Maybe this balancing effect is causing my hair to grow? "Are you sure that you have more body hair, or your existing body hair may just be growing longer. For example, my chest hair is pretty thick and long. It looks like I have more than I do." It's possible, but from what i can see, i'v gone from no chest hair, to little hairs popping up everywhere. Anagen, i suppose that is probably the best reasoning, that i am getting older. But i'v always had trouble at growing a beard. It would take about a month to get any coverage(and that's only on the chin) and even then, it was only thin horrible hairs. I put up with this for years. Now since taking SP, the hairs are nice and thick and grow alot faster. |

As age progresses, the hair cycle length in some areas is prolonged. Eyebrow area is a typical area with increasing anagen phase. It could possibly happen for chest or arm hair too. |

It was my understanding, although I may be mistaken, that SP binds to the same receptor sites that DHT does. It therefor competes with DHT and as a result you will experience more body hair growth. Is this right Tom? Since I've taken SP I've noticed that I have toned up a bit too. J |

My opinion is that SP doesn't do much of anything unless you have benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). But there is a wide divergence of opinion on this subject - especially among the people who promote this herb. |

I've also noticed that i toned up. My skin seems to look more hydrated and younger. Anyway, from what i gather, SP would attach to follicles thus allowing less and less DHT to attach. I've only been taking it for a month. It looks like i might have more facial hair, but i know for sure that it grows in slower. |
