Well i did it, i did the SE without missing one day for 12 months straight.

I've had some progress, but let me start with my original condition. Basically just significant diffuse loss from the hairline and back about 3 inches. My entire crown is diffuse thinned to about 50% density i'd say.

There are definately many new hairs along the center of my hairline that are dark, 50% thick and have some length. They definately were not visibly there before.

My temples are harder to see in the mirror, sometimes i think i can see the 100% vellous coverage darkening. Its hard to tell and too early. The crown is the same deal, can't get the angle on it in the mirror.

I'd say it took about 10 months before i noticed anything at all. I believe i still shed more than "normal" to this day. I'm not noticably thinner than one year ago tho.

The SE is the only credible thing i've been doing, and it's also darkened my hair and smoothed out my forehead lines.

I believe the 8-12 month regrowth plan is for people who just started thinning. My hairloss started 11 years ago.

Yours is a credible statement. Most people who are looking for help with hair loss problems would be turned off by it though. Most people want quick and dramatic results - anything less is a downer. TV infomercials lead us to expect instant gratification. It's too bad reality usually doesn't grant us what we want.

Thanks for the message.

ya, i don't use any chemicals, i've tried them years ago, but all the topicals just burned holes in my head (felt like it anyway). I should have spent my proscar money somthing nice instead.

Tom, i would think that the people who want the quick results would be younger and barely receeding. People who have just started to lose.

I'm 30 and have been noticably thinning (to others) since early 20's. It took a long time to get this thin; nothing short of an act of God is going to restore this hair in a few months.

"....nothing short of an act of God is going to restore this hair in a few months." Yep.. only procerin could get your hair back now.

Please don't say things like that... You know how people like to get excited about procerin!

Seriously though, it sounds like Daver's had credible success with the exercises.

If you don't get on with minoxidil or proscar then what's to lose?

I'm still on the exercises only at three months, and my scalp is much healthier and my existing hair covers a lot better, but I keep finding myself looking at that qhi pharmacy site... If I'm this much better with Nizoral and the exercises how much difference might proscar and an extra 100 or so hairs per square inch on my crown make??

Well, i've been doing the exercises for juat about a year now. I can't honestly say that any hair has grown back - it still seems to be weakening although actual hair loss is still quite slow.
Some days i look at my hair and think "well, that looks pretty ok" whilst at other times i reckon it's going downhill.
So Tom, i don't really have any good news to report yet; however i will continue to do the exercises as i have got used to doing them (i'm doing them now!) and maybe i'll see results in the long run.

ColmF:

Just for the record

Are you JUST doing the Scalp excercise?- Are your eating habits good? Are you taking Vitamins or using Special Shampoos or taking Propecia Rogaine or else?

Also: If its not too much to answer: How bad was your condition when you started and how old are you??

I turned 30 in November. I use Biotin shampoo and conditioners though not religiously.I try to eat quite healthily and usually take a vitamin supplement.i drink beer most weekends but also drink a fair bit of water everyday.
I always had a fairly high hairline like my Dad who now has a Jack Nicholson type of hairline at 64 but i would say my hair was noticably receding for 2-3 years. i'm not really sure how to classify my hairline- maybe a 2 on the Norwood scale, maybe less, maybe more

I hope you do manage to get results. I can relate to your condition because its similar to mine- except I started the excercises about 3 weeks ago. - I really wish they could help- sometimes one looses hope.- I dont want to start on chemicals either - it's like accepting that you are loosing your hair "officially" forever.
Hope you do well, and keep coming to this forum so that we can help each other out with ideas and support.

Daver:

What Norwood Scale were you at 20 and what Norwood Scale were you before you started the SE?-

You mentioned

"Tom, i would think that the people who want the quick results would be younger and barely receeding. People who have just started to lose.
I'm 30 and have been noticably thinning (to others) since early 20's. It took a long time to get this thin; "

I am almost your age , have had some episodes in the past where I thought I was thinning but not really, I always had a thick head of hair and still have a lot of it, BUT I just noticed some shedding and a pronounced receeding in the temples and front hairline but am still covered in the top and back with a slight diffuse. So I was wondering,

Do you think this SE would work for me ? Maybe it's a good start point to do the SE now that it's in the initial phase???? If you started at 19 like Tom, probably it could have helped...
Should I take other treatments simultaneously or is your recommendation stick to only Tom's routine?

My hair was almost perfect till about 22. Slight thinning, perhaps, and an irregular hairline that happened at 19...?

I couldn't put a norwood number on it now, its diffuse loss only - crown, and hairline to 2 inches back.

Its been quite frustrating with this program for me. I'll see some results and then poof, i can't find them anymore. Has happened several times; and all the while i continued to shed as i have all along. Tho not nearly as bad as my mid 20's.

Its the burning scalp, i'm sure of it. Until i find out what burning a hole through my scalp, i can't really expect reasonable results.

Been doing SE now for 21 months, and i havn't missed a day yet. I'll definately be doing them into 3 years, i've got some other ideas to add.

The burning scalp comment is interesting as sometimes i get a dry itchy feeling on my skin, which a Chinese medicine practitioner called excess heat in the liver. At these times i also notice that my hair looks worse than when my skin is cooler. It's as if the heat is rising up through my body and drying out the hair follicles.
This leads me to believe that the inner health of the body is just as important for a healthy head of hair as any topical treatment of the actual scalp. How to achieve this inner balance isn't clear to me though-indeed, i'm sure it differs for each individual.
I'm cutting out beer for the month of January (well, trying to,anyway) so i wonder if this will help......

I'm still plugging away at the exercises- without a massive amount of hope, i have to admit, but i'm not giving up. i just wanted to give my opinion on the importance of sleep to success.I normally get around 6-6.5 hours of sleep a night as i find it difficult to sleep later. I normally turn off the light about 2.30am. However, i have been feeling rundown recently and realised that i had been staying awake until about 3am for about a week. We had also had relatives staying with us and i sat up late a few nights with my brother in law. In addition, i had a couple of hectic nights out at the weekend recently.
With all this lack of sleep, i noticed that my hair was looking worse and worse each day and that the temples were becoming more visible.
To cut a long story short, i've had about 3 good nights sleep (for me, about 7 hours) since, and i think the hair does look better for it. Has anyone else any positive/negative experiences about the effects of sleep on their hair?

Ok, one VERY important factor that everyone leaves out of their progress repot is: Just how much SE do you do daily? I do 1 hour per day and in the weekends 3 hours per day. Did this for a while now... I think this is a very important factor to consider...

If you do 10 minutes a day for 10 years that's not saying much... Now if 2 hours a day for 10 years wouldn't give me anything, I'd be very pissed at Tom.

How many hairs do you shed daily?

Bobo,

I really don't think doing the scalp exercises that much will help any more than it would by just doing them for 10 minutes, 2 times a day. However, it is possible you're right. It's just my opinion. I hope it works out for you!!

I've noticed this. On the days I don't sleep well(one of these days is always a full moon) My hair doesn't look or style as well. WHY?

I do Tom's SE all through out the day. Tom says that when you exercise the muscle, it brings blood to the muscle. So instead of doing 2, 10 min. sessions. I'll do 5-10 2 minute sessions, all through out the day. This way my scalp gets a shot of blood on more of a regular basis. However, if I were to cut myself on my scalp, I'll still bleed.

How many hairs do you shed daily?

E.B, i have no idea. I stopped counting a long time ago, but the shedding did diminish somewhat when i cleaned up my diet about 4-5 years ago.

Now that my hair is buzzed (i recommend it, it feels good, and you don't need to shampoo anymore), i'll never know how much shedding i do.

I don't believe the scalp exercise is strong enough to be any kind of a cure, perhaps a decent supplement to a routine.

Hairs have come, hairs have gone..overall i've ended up with a net loss in the almost 2 years of SE (never missed a day yet either).

I've been staring at some other miniature hair protrusions at my hairline for some months now...

I'll just keep plugging away..
