With hair loss? Im not talking just creepy crawlies but severe acid burn and redness?

My hair is coming out fast and the pain is unbearable. I had every test that is normal. I mean every one. All the docs toss me to the curb. Im just beside myself. Im female 37 and this started 6 mos ago out of no where.

I've been reading for months about AGA and sore pain but this is not just sore, this is on fire. So I wonder if anyone else has it this extreme?

I see a hair specialist the end of the week. My face also burns as well. Sometimes i feel like someone is using my scalp as a pin cushion also.

I read all the burning scalp stuff, its not anxiety as its pink.. I would love to hear from anyone with this syndrome along with HL. I feel its autoimmune in nature.

momtothree...

I have the same pain w/my hairloss. Mine started 6 months ago also...although the whole problem of hairloss has been on and off for several years - some times worse than others. I believe it might be CTE - but I can't figure out why.

Please let us know what the hair specialist says...

Thanks

Gina you have the same pain? Goodness its good to hear someone else having this. I mean not good but at least I dont feel so alone. Its Like someone poured battery acid on my head, it wakes me up at night etc. Its aweful

I read about burning scalp syndrome and how anxiety can be a factor. Do you think that might be your case? I know its not mine because I dont think anxiety could cause such horrific pain and redness.

I will let you know what the doc says and you can email me anytime

M23,

Yes - I have bouts of scalp pain along with inflammation w/my hairloss. When my scalp is at its worst (when I shed the most) the pain is worse and also wakes me out of a sleep. My nephew (15 years old) also has seb derm and although he has tons of hair complains of a sore scalp as well. Do you have seborrheic dermatitis, too? Does your scalp produce too much sebum - that often cause odor and flaking? I use Nizoral 1% and it helps some - but at different times (and for no known reason) I get a flare up that nothing can touch. I have been having a "good" scalp/hair week this week - less shedding, flaking, pain, itching, etc - but I never get too happy because I know it will return and sometimes with a vengence.

Gina,

I dont think I have dermatitis, my scalp is not oily or flaky.

My doctor that I saw said many patients who come in complain of odd scalp pain. But she said I do not have Androgenic Alopecia because basically wmen with burning heads do not have that, AGA might have an itch but not burning that wakes us up.

her thought more auto-immune like Fibromyalgia. Sending me to a Rhumatologist. I got cortizone injections there and today I may be feeling some relief in the back of my scalp.

very odd indeed, my scalp was also pink at the visit and the doctor noted that.

No fatigue or joint pain here. Just lots of shedding and thinning, flaky scalp, itching and pain. I have to wash my hair each day or the odor from the sebum builds up. I have been eating lots of red meat and wonder if I have found my issue (low iron stores) or if I am once again going to work on the wrong thing for months w/no change.

Did your doc test you for thyroid? Iron? Anything?
