Got a quick question... I've been studying my hair, scalp etc...lately since I noticed my hair started to suddenly thin in the front, in about a 2 week period. When doing this every once in a while I see a few hairs that are very "kinky" and irregular, they honestly look like pubic hairs on my head! I've noticed it before, over the past few years...mabye 5 or 6 years but didn't think much of it until recently, because my hair was always overly thick, full and dense. This is strange because my hair is very straight and rather "puffy", has a lot of body, and these kinky/irregular pubic hair looking hairs are strange. Anyone know what causes this, or is it a sign of anything? Tom, or anyone know? Thanks in advance for any help, -Dave |

Oh, and by the way... In the past I have used a whole host of antibiotics, as well as two 3-4 month courses of Accutane, to treat acne. But it's honestly been about 3 years since I used any of these, last being the Accutane. Thanks again... |

"Anyone know what causes this, or is it a sign of anything? Tom, or anyone know? " Your hair is thinning and follicles are shrinking - MPB!

Dave dont listen to pete. If you want to know what he says is ture or not. Go to a Derm. Get him to give you a biopsy. They do not hurt. I"ve had one. It will tell you if your scalp is showing signs that are typicla of MPB or not. Also, once you know. You then know what/ how to start moving forward. Not knowing is the hardest part. Best to you |

Thanks jktwn, I appreciate it a lot... I'm actually calling a derm today to make an appointment. I've had these "kinky" weird looking hairs since I was in high school/college, when I had a very, very thick head of hair. They're usually very thick and kinky... Thanks again... |

I agree with jktwn, it sounds like you need a dermatologist. I was too, on Accutane, but that didn't take a toll on my hair. I think it's most likely MPB (something you can control with the exrecises). Just my opinion. Eric Roberts |

Thanks Eric, I pray it's not MPB...because that means there's no cure, only hope to slow it down. It's weird, never noticed any issues before, no thinning, no recession...nothing...then all of a sudden it thinned out in a matter of about 3 weeks, but only in the frontal portion, about the first 2 inches of my head. I have an appt. with a derm next Friday, but I have a feeling it'll be what I expect, a quick look at my hair followed by a script for propecia...great. Thanks to all though, I appreciate it. -Dave |
