I know that Omega-3 is good for hair, but is Omega-6 that bad? Also, what is the ration supposed to be? I eat this organic butter spread everyday now thinking it will help my hair (because of the omega-3) but I just read the label closely and it says:

8:1 ration of Omega-6 to Omega-3
Omega-3: 340mg/svg. Omega-6: 2720mg/svg.

what do I do? should I stop eating this and just take fish oil?

Thanks

Ryan:

Go to Nutrition and scroll down to the heading "New ideas on the essential fatty acids (EFFs)." Nutritionists are now of the opinion that a good ratio between the omega-6 and omega-3 is three to one. Butter, organic or not, is extremely high in omega-6.

Thanks Tom.

I will continue to eat fish and take the fish oil, but should I basically stay away from foods with high omega-6 then?

Ryan H:

You need some omega-6 in your diet but just don't get too much. Do some study to find out the foods that are loaded with omega-6, like butter, and avoid them.
